Jeju Island Travel Tips

If you want to have fun and eat well on your trip to Jeju Island, here are some things to know about sightseeing and food to make your trip smoother:

Playing precautions
Recommended self-drive tour: Jeju Island attractions are widely distributed, car rental is very convenient, drive left and right within the island. The speed limit is mostly 50km/h, and can reach 80km/h in urban areas. Apply for an international driver’s license in advance and have your destination phone ready for navigation.

Navigation APP: Google Maps is not available in Korea, remember to download Naver Maps or Kakao Maps.

Parking: Parking is free at most attractions, but popular attractions may require a fee, and it is recommended to carry change.

The peak summer season (July-August) attractions crowded, need to book in advance; spring, autumn (April-June, September-October) climate comfortable and suitable for travel.

Attractions recommended: Chengshan Sunrise Peak, Hanshu Mountain, Niu Island, Dongmen Market, Wanzhang Cave, Ailai Magic Image Art Museum, large seaside.

Traffic Safety: There are many deceleration slopes on Jeju Island roads, especially between school zones to slow down to 30km/h, violations are prone to be photographed.

Public facilities: Public toilets are mostly clean but somewhat less. Bring some wet wipes. Carrying large luggage by bus needs to ask the driver in advance.

Food notes
Must-try black pork: Recommend black pork restaurants such as "Dombe Pork", "Mature to" and "Seven Pork Home"; Black Pork Street is particularly lively in the evening.

Seafood Hot Pot: Jeju’s seafood is fresh, and you must try the combination of bacon, octopus, and flower crab.

Specialty noodles: Sister Noodles' black pork soup noodles and dry noodles are very popular.

Local snacks: Must-try orange jelly, rice rolls, and night market dim sum at Dongmen Market.

Korean dishes such as sashimi, sauce crab, and ginseng chicken soup are worth trying.

The restaurant has easy queues during popular hours, and some can be booked using the Catchtable APP.

Dining etiquette: Korean restaurants mostly share meals, order set will come with side dishes, do not eat spicy can inform in advance.

Some restaurants only accept cash, not necessarily by credit card.

Other courteous reminders
Essentials before traveling: Passports must be valid for more than 6 months. Bring enough Korean won, SIM card or eSIM. It is more convenient to learn a few simple Korean words.

Clothing Preparation: Cool in spring and autumn, sunscreen, beachwear in summer, and thick coat in winter.

Safety: Jeju Island has good security and is considered one of the safest destinations in Korea.
