The Dome of the Rock is located in the Old City of Jerusalem, 300 meters north of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. It is a holy place in Islam. Muslims regard it as a noble temple, while Jews and Christians call it the Temple Mount. Looking from a distance, its majestic and dazzling golden roof shines with a unique glow under the blue sky, and it is breathtakingly beautiful no matter in the early morning or at dusk. In 1994, King Hussein of Jordan invested $6.5 million to cover the dome with 24 kilograms of pure gold foil, making it completely famous and becoming one of the most famous symbols of Jerusalem😍.
The mosque was built between 687 and 691 under the supervision of the 9th Caliph Abdul Malik and is one of the oldest mosques in the world. Its appearance is very unique. The large dome is 54 meters high and 24 meters in diameter. It is also one of the few mosques that does not have a minaret that towers into the sky. Walking into the mosque, it feels like stepping into a space full of history and faith. In the middle is a huge light blue stone, 17.7 meters long, 13.5 meters wide, and 1.2 meters above the ground. It is inlaid with silver and copper and surrounded by copper railings. There is a large pit on this rock. It is said that this is the horseshoe print left by the Prophet Muhammad when he ascended to heaven. It is of great significance to Muslims.
For everyone, visiting the Dome of the Rock is an experience filled with awe and wonder. As you stroll in the Old City of Jerusalem and approach this mosque step by step, you can feel a strong religious atmosphere and a heavy sense of history. It should be noted that when entering the site for a visit, you must respect local religious customs, dress appropriately, and stay within the designated area.
🤩Standing near the Dome of the Rock, you can seem to feel the weight of history and the sacredness of religion intertwined together. Especially in the early morning, the dome emits a soft golden light in the morning light, and the feeling of tranquility and peace is intoxicating. If you climb the nearby Mount of Olives and overlook the panoramic view of the Old City of Jerusalem and the Dome of the Rock, it will be an indescribable shocking experience. 😍
If you plan to travel to Jerusalem, don’t miss the Dome of the Rock. It is like an open history book and a picture scroll of faith, waiting for you to read and appreciate 😉.
