Bailuzhou Academy is located on Bailuzhou Island in the Gan River, east of Ji'an City, Jiangxi Province. Admission is free 🎟️
The academy was established in 1241 by Jiang Wanli, the governor of Ji'an during the Southern Song Dynasty. Its name was inspired by a line from Li Bai's poem: "Three mountains half fall beyond the blue sky, two rivers divide Bailuzhou." Since the Song Dynasty, Bailuzhou Academy has been recognized alongside Lushan Bailudong Academy, Yanshan Gehu Academy, and Nanchang Yuzhang Academy as one of the "Four Great Academies of Jiangxi."
The existing ancient structures of the academy mostly date back to the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Key buildings include:
Yunzhang Pavilion, Fengyue Tower, Pan Yue Pool, and Fugu Pavilion. The island also features Guji Terrace, Zhongshan Courtyard, and Red Mansion, which are Republican-era buildings, showcasing the academy's millennia-long heritage from the Song Dynasty to modern times.
