In Shaxi Ancient Town, I stayed in a courtyard that seemed to compose poetry

Before coming to Shaxi, I never imagined that a hotel could become the most stunning scenery of a trip. White walls, black tiles, and swaying bamboo shadows—when I pushed open the wooden door, I knew I had come to the right place.
What is it like to live inside a Song Dynasty painting?
▪️ Courtyard Design: Inspired by Emperor Huizong's "Auspicious Cranes"
A shallow pool mirrors the sky, koi fish glide gracefully, moss covers the stones, and bamboo paths lead to secluded spots. Every corner redefines "a view at every step."
▪️ Light and Shadow Magic: Most beautiful at dawn and dusk
Sunlight filters through wooden lattice screens, painting a natural ink wash on the tatami. When the lanterns light up at night, you truly understand the meaning of "deep courtyards."
Room details that delight perfectionists:
✅ 180° panoramic windows + private tea room
Wake up to birdsong and open your eyes to a misty courtyard.
✅ King Koil mattress + velvet duvet
A magical bed that makes you never want to get up.
✅ Underfloor heating + smart toilet
Walking barefoot on warm floors on a crisp autumn morning is pure bliss.
✅ Custom tea set + Yunnan ancient tree black tea
Sipping tea while gazing at the bamboo grove—finally understanding the joy of the ancients.
Must-visit photo spots:
1️⃣ Moon gate in the corridor (recommended to wear plain long dresses)
2️⃣ Reflection in the shallow pool (even more poetic on rainy days)
3️⃣ Second-floor viewing platform (perfect for capturing the courtyard panorama)
4️⃣ Paper lantern by the guestroom window (night shots are atmospheric perfection)
Nearby activities:
A 10-minute walk to Shaxi Ancient Street, with Pioneer Bookstore, the ancient theater stage, and Yujin Bridge all nearby. Staying for at least two nights is recommended to truly experience the slow-paced lifestyle.

Tips for a genuine stay:
√ Book a courtyard room for a better experience
√ Bring Hanfu or modern Chinese-style clothing
√ The front desk can arrange a free tea ceremony experience
√ Bring mosquito repellent during the rainy season
This is probably the most recommendable hotel I've stayed at in Yunnan. That's all for now—I'm off to the courtyard to listen to the rain and enjoy some tea. (Rooms are often fully booked, so plan ahead if you're interested!)
