When I was sorting out my photo albums a few days ago, I found that I hadn’t posted the guide for my trip to Jilin last year. I’m going to make up for it while I still remember it.
My friend and I went to Jilin and Changchun at the end of December last year, which was during the New Year's Eve. Let’s not waste any more time and get straight to the point.
1️⃣ Jilin City Manchu Museum
No tickets required. It looks like a big courtyard. Coincidentally, it was snowing heavily on the day we went there, so the red and white colors complemented each other perfectly. The photos are very good. But the collections inside are not actually very rich, their main purpose is to let everyone understand the origin of the Manchu people. I don't think it's necessary to come here specially, but you can visit it if you are in the right place.
2️⃣Jilin City Catholic Church
It's great for taking photos. The opposite side of the road feels like the best spot, with not many people. The weather was bad that day, it was cloudy and drizzling. It would have been better if the sun was shining. The church is quite large and the stained glass windows inside are very beautiful. I heard that it would look better at night with lights on. The day we went was Sunday and there was a service in the morning, so we could not enter until after 10:00.
The rest was just strolling around on the road, and we also went to Beishan Park, which is a very large park. When we went there, it was winter, so there were many children skating on the ice under the park.
Restaurant 😎
1️⃣Fengfeng Restaurant
Recommended: Fried dumplings and snow bean paste.
It feels like a small restaurant that Jilin locals would eat at when they don't want to cook. The taste is pretty standard and you can't go wrong with it, but if you say it's amazing, that's not the case hahahaha. Few shops are willing to make snow-white bean paste now because it is rather troublesome. It requires beating egg whites, adding a lot of oil, and then kneading it well afterwards, otherwise it will easily seep into the oil.
I think the fried buns are a bit salty. But overall it's okay.
2️⃣Qianyilai Wula Manchu Hotpot
Cloisonné copper pot hotpot, a Manchu hotpot you must try. The bottom of the pot contains bone broth and seafood soup, which has a different taste from the old Beijing copper pot hot pot meat, but is also delicious. The most distinctive dish is the pork belly with alternating fat and lean meat, which tastes pretty good and the mutton is also very fresh. Other specialties include hazel mushrooms, sauerkraut, day lily, and blood sausage. The more they are cooked, the better they taste. Come and try them~
