Pearl Spring｜The jade wheel rolls endlessly, and the beads trickle all day long

The Pearl Spring spring group is located in the central part of the old city of Jinan, among which Pearl Spring, Zhuoying Spring, Shun Spring, Furong Spring, and Xiaogan Spring are the most famous. Pearl Spring is named for its ground-level spring that bubbles up like a string of pearls. Among the many springs in Jinan, Pearl Spring is very famous, comparable to Baotu Spring. Emperor Qianlong even believed that Pearl Spring was superior to Baotu Spring. He wrote in his poem: Jinan has many famous springs, gathered by the waters of Mount Tai. Which one is the greatest? Baotu and Pearl. Baotu is already excellent, slightly aided by human effort. Pearl excels in natural beauty, astonishing even the immortals. It stands out among the seventy-two springs, flowing into Daming Lake.
Legend has it that the strings of pearls in Pearl Spring are the transformed tears of Shun's two concubines, Ehuang and Nüying. Where the tears fell, clear springs gushed out, and the spring water flowed like a string of pearls, which is today's Pearl Spring.
How many friends stop at the gate of Renmin University and dare not go in? Don't be intimidated by the gate; it is actually open to the public. Turn left after entering the gate and follow the road to reach Pearl Spring, one of the seventy-two famous springs in Jinan. Walking and taking photos in the courtyard can take 40-50 minutes.
The traditional Chinese architecture in the courtyard is quite distinctive, with red bricks and blue skies complementing each other, and willow leaves adding to the picturesque scene, making it a niche attraction. As soon as you enter the gate, you will be attracted by the grand hall of the Qing Dynasty Governor's Office.
The hall is located on the east side of Pearl Spring and was once the Chengyun Hall of the Ming Dynasty De Fan Palace. After being renovated in the Qing Dynasty, it became the main hall of the Governor's Office. This hall was once the place where the Shandong Governor and the military and political officials of the Republic of China administered and judged cases. Pearl Spring is also associated with historical figures.
In May 1960, Chairman Mao Zedong of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China inspected Jinan and stopped by Pearl Spring. The breeze brought a burst of fragrance. Chairman Mao followed the scent and saw a tree with small flowers and asked its name. The accompanying staff asked an old gardener, who replied: "This tree is called Osmanthus Willow, a rare species in the Jinan area, planted in 1954." Chairman Mao smiled and kindly instructed: "Take good care of it." Today, this Osmanthus Willow has grown into a large tree under careful care. The rockery stands precariously, green willows provide shade, waterfalls rush, and small streams flow. The spring water flows into Zhuoying Lake in the northern part of the scenic area from Yudai River.
