Rize Valley: The "Peak of Beauty" in Jiuzhaigou Scenery
As the core scenic area of Jiuzhaigou, Rize Valley concentrates the most stunning water landscapes in the park and requires a focused visit throughout.
- Five Flower Lake: Known as the "Essence of Jiuzhaigou," it is widely recognized as the beauty icon. The lake water, refracted by sunlight, simultaneously displays multiple colors such as sapphire blue, emerald green, and pale yellow, resembling a spilled palette. The dead tree branches and calcified deposits at the lake bottom are clearly visible, resembling coral, adding layers to this flowing "jade." The lake’s colors are most magical between 9 and 10 a.m. when the light is slanting; low-angle shots can capture the breathtaking scene of the water surface and snow peaks in one frame.
- Pearl Shoal Waterfall: Famous for being featured in the ending scene of the 1986 version of "Journey to the West," the waterfall spans over 200 meters, with water flowing over calcified shoals. The splashing droplets resemble thousands of jumping pearls, and rainbows often appear when sunlight shines. Standing on the boardwalk, the mist hits your face, refreshing and cool, but be careful of slippery footing and protect your photography equipment.
- Mirror Lake: Named for its "mirror-like surface," before 8 a.m. on windless mornings, the lake perfectly reflects the snow-capped mountains, colorful forests, and sky, creating a spectacular scene of "sky above and below, endless blue," making it hard to distinguish between reality and reflection. This quiet time with fewer people is the best opportunity to capture photos with an ink-painting atmosphere.
Zechaowa Valley: The "Tranquil Treasure" Hidden in the Mountains
Although this valley is 18 kilometers long, its highlights are concentrated at both ends, known for its deep and magnificent lake views, with a tour time of about 1 hour.
- Chang Lake: The highest (3,060 meters) and largest lake in Jiuzhaigou, its water is a deep sapphire blue, surrounded by mountains with snow-capped peaks year-round. Even in summer, you can see the cool beauty of snow peaks reflected in the water. Prayer flags flutter by the lakeside, and sitting quietly on the boardwalk allows you to feel the tranquility and grandeur of nature. Due to the high altitude and strong winds, be sure to bring warm clothing.
- Five Color Pond: Known as the "Eye of Jiuzhaigou," although small in size, it is the most vividly colored lake. The water transitions from deep blue to light green, and the calcified pond bottom reflects dazzling light under the sun, like blue spirits rising from the earth, especially dazzling on sunny days.
Shuzheng Valley: The "Vivid Microcosm" of Jiuzhaigou Style
As the main route in and out of the park, Shuzheng Valley connects lakes, waterfalls, and Tibetan villages, showcasing Jiuzhaigou’s diverse charm.
- Shuzheng Lakes Cluster: Composed of more than 40 lakes of various sizes stretching 7 kilometers, like a string of emerald necklaces embedded in the valley. The water flows in layers along terraced calcified embankments, and you can see ancient mills and prayer wheels along the way. In spring, enjoy plateau peach blossoms; in autumn, colorful forests surround the area. Hiking along the boardwalk offers surprises at every step.
- Nuorilang Waterfall: China’s widest calcified waterfall, spanning 270 meters, with water rushing down the cliff like thunder, creating a magnificent spectacle. In autumn, the red leaves around the waterfall contrast sharply with the white water curtain, adding poetic charm. This is also the park’s transfer center, where you can rest and resupply.
