This castle was built by the Shimazu clan, the feudal lords of the Satsuma domain. The structure of the Goromon gate is called "Yakata-zukuri" and is called Tsurumaru Castle because it looks like a crane spreading its wings. Currently, only the stone walls remain. On the site stands the Kagoshima Prefectural Historical Materials Center Reimei-kan, where you can learn about the history of Kagoshima. The Goromon Gate was once burned down, but was restored in 2020 and is very impressive.
