Kagoshima Prefectural Yoshino Park is a vast city park located in the northern part of Kagoshima City. There are more than 800 cherry blossom trees in the park, most of which are concentrated in a grove in the southern corner of the park, which is an ideal place to hold a cherry blossom viewing party. Every year in early April, when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, this place becomes a sea of pink, attracting many tourists and local residents to come and enjoy the flowers.
The park is not only a great place to enjoy the cherry blossoms, it also provides a great viewing point. From the 234-meter-high observation deck, visitors can overlook Sakurajima on the other side of Kinko Bay. On a clear day, you can even see the Kirishima Mountains and Kaimon-dake in the distance. Selected as one of the "100 Best City Parks in Japan" in 1989, Yoshino Park is surrounded by approximately 70,000 trees from 140 different species. In addition to the Japanese garden and the Western Palm Garden, approximately 40,000 azaleas bloom in vibrant colors around the fountain.
Kawazu cherry blossoms are in full bloom as early as late February, while regular cherry blossoms bloom in April. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Sakurajima and flowers of the four seasons. Whether you are a family, a couple or alone, Yoshino Park is a great place to view cherry blossoms and enjoy nature.
