[Kagoshima Prefecture] Sengan-en, a borrowed landscape garden with a commanding view of the majestic Sakurajima

"Sengakuen Garden" is a garden with a borrowed landscape that overlooks the majestic Sakurajima.

This place has a deep connection with the Shimazu family, a famous family that has ruled southern Kyushu for about 700 years since the Kamakura period, until the Edo period. It was built as a villa by Shimazu Mitsuhisa, the 19th head of the Shimazu family, and the large garden, which resembles Kinko Bay, one of the 100 most scenic spots in Japan, as a pond, is said to have fascinated many people, including the famous Princess Atsuhime.

In addition, the area where Senganen Garden is located was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2015 as a "Meiji Industrial Revolution Heritage Site" 👏. It was a place where you could feel the history of the people of Satsuma, who played a part in the modernization of Japan! The vast park is packed with historical sites and attractions, including the "palace" where the Shimazu family once lived, the "Bougaku-ro" gazebo where Katsu Kaishu was entertained at the end of the Edo period, the "remains of the reverberatory furnace" built for casting iron cannons, and the "Tsuru-toro" lantern used in gas lamp experiments!

*Among them, the "Shishi-nori Oishi-toro," a giant lantern with a flying lion on top, is impressive when seen up close, so it's recommended 📸

The park is quite large, so it will take some time to see everything!
The official website lists recommended courses for each length of stay, so if you are visiting as a tourist, please refer to them😌
