[Kagoshima Prefecture] Sengan-en

Sengan-en Garden is a villa in Kagoshima Prefecture for the Shimazu clan, lords of the Satsuma domain.
Owned by Shimazu Kogyo Co., Ltd.
During the Edo period, it was built as a villa on the coast by Shimazu Mitsuhisa, the 19th head of the Shimazu clan.
The expansive garden, covering approximately 45,000 square meters, is filled with seasonal flowers, and the garden offers a beautiful backdrop of Sakurajima across Kinko Bay.
The Shoko Shuseikan Museum and the Satsuma Kiriko Kiriko Factory are nearby, and the entire Iso area where Sengan-en Garden is located was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2015 as part of the "Meiji Industrial Revolution Heritage Sites of Japan."
It was the filming location for the historical drama "Atsuhime" in 2008 and "Saigo Don" in 2018.
