Kaihua County, which belongs to Quzhou City, Zhejiang Province, is located in the western part of Zhejiang Province, the northwest of Quzhou City, the source of Qianjiang River, and the junction of Zhejiang, Anhui and Jiangxi provinces. It has a mid-subtropical (northern edge) monsoon climate with warm and humid climate, abundant rainfall, distinct four seasons and a total area of 2,236.61 square kilometers.
Kaihua County was established in the sixth year of Taipingxingguo in the Northern Song Dynasty (981). In May 1985, Kaihua County was under the jurisdiction of Quzhou City. It is the only old revolutionary county in Quzhou area, with 108 old revolutionary villages and 116 revolutionary sites and relics. Kaihua County is known as "nine mountains, half water and half farmland" and is praised as the "green lung of East China". It is a national ecological county, "China's natural oxygen bar", and the hometown of Chinese root carving art. The root carving culture has been listed as an intangible cultural heritage of Zhejiang Province. The Gengong Buddhist Kingdom Cultural Tourism Area is the first national 5A scenic spot in Quzhou City and has been certified by the Guinness World Records as the "world's largest root carving museum".
