I've planned an ambitious and exciting day trip to Kamakura and Enoshima, perfect for anyone (like me!) ready to cover a lot of ground! This "power walk" itinerary hits some of the most iconic spots.
My Kamakura & Enoshima "Power Walk" Route:
Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine (鹤冈八幡宫): I'll start my day at Kamakura's most important Shinto shrine. Its grand approach and serene atmosphere will be a wonderful beginning to my exploration.
Yukino-shita (雪之下): I'll then explore the area around the shrine, often referred to as Yukino-shita, which has charming streets and shops.
Kamakura Daibutsu (镰仓大佛): Next, I'll head to the iconic Great Buddha of Kamakura at Kotoku-in Temple. This massive bronze statue is a must-see for me.
Shichirigahama Beach (七里滨): I'll make my way to Shichirigahama, a beautiful stretch of coastline known for its scenic views, especially of Enoshima Island and Mount Fuji on clear days.
Kamakura Koko-mae Station (镰仓高等学校): This famous railway crossing, right in front of Kamakura High School, is a popular spot for fans of Slam Dunk due to its iconic anime scene. I'm expecting crowds of people trying to get the perfect photo with the Enoden train and the sea in the background.
Enoshima Island (江の島): I'll conclude my day by crossing over to Enoshima Island. I plan to explore the Enoshima Shrine, the Samuel Cocking Garden (with its observation lighthouse), and the various caves. The island offers fantastic ocean views and a lively atmosphere.
This route covers a fantastic amount of ground, offering a great mix of cultural sites, natural beauty, and pop culture landmarks. I'll be sure to wear comfortable shoes and stay hydrated for this epic day of exploration!
