Swayambhunath: A Stunning View of Kathmandu

Swayambhunath, located on a hill to the west of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in the country.

This special place, with its stunning stupa, the panoramic view of Kathmandu from the hilltop, and the serene atmosphere, has a way of calming the hearts of its visitors.

Locally known as the "Monkey Temple," the site is home to numerous monkeys that roam freely around the premises, living up to its nickname.

At the center of the golden dome-shaped stupa, the "Eyes of Buddha," which symbolize the all-seeing nature of Buddha, are painted. This represents the unique spiritual culture of Nepal, where Buddhism and Hinduism coexist. Surrounding the stupa are prayer wheels that visitors and pilgrims quietly spin or ring bells as they offer their prayers.

Swayambhunath is also famous as a scenic spot offering a panoramic view of the Kathmandu Valley! The view during the evening is particularly stunning, with the city appearing to float in the mist and the stupa glowing in the sunset—a truly breathtaking sight.
