Kamakura is one of the top destinations for a day trip near Tokyo! It's just about an hour away by train, making it perfect for a one-day excursion. 😊
Since it's a seaside town, I was excited about the possibility of enjoying fresher seafood. I researched a few sushi places, and among them, the one that stood out the most was Sushi and Sake NAKANIWA! You can easily make a reservation through Tabelog when you search for it on Google. 😄
I ordered the Omakase 10-piece set for 3,500 yen, which was just the right amount for a solo female diner. :) Before the meal, you can choose between water or green tea. I opted for cold green tea, and it was so delicious that I was genuinely surprised! 😂 It had no bitterness at all and was just clean and refreshing. It was also perfect for cleansing the palate between sushi pieces. 😄
The staff kindly used a translator to explain the type of fish for each piece of omakase sushi as they served it. 😊
The white sushi piece was squid, and it was shockingly delicious in the best way possible. Up until then, they had been brushing soy sauce on the sushi, but for the squid, they sprinkled salt and squeezed sudachi (a type of citrus) on top. The moment I put it in my mouth, the refreshing citrus flavor burst, and the chewy texture made it incredibly satisfying. I couldn't help but applaud myself for deciding to come here. 😄
The salt and sudachi combination was also used for the scallop, which was equally delightful. 💕 The miso soup had a flavor reminiscent of adding a spoonful of black bean paste—rich and slightly salty. 😂
The second most surprising piece was the eel sushi! It was unbelievably tender. The texture was so different from the eel I've had in Korea, which made it all the more intriguing. It even made me resolve to visit an eel rice bowl specialty restaurant on another day. 🤭
Overall, it was an incredibly satisfying meal! I would 100% revisit. 🥰
