If Tokyo feels overwhelming or you still have a free day in your trip, Kamakura is the perfect getaway. Just an hour from Tokyo, this small coastal city has a relaxed vibe and plenty to explore in a single day. ✅
Getting There 🚉
We started from JR Ueno Station and took a 40-minute ride to Totsuka Station, then transferred to a train directly to Kamakura Station. The whole trip takes only about 1 hour. 🫶🏻
Getting Around 🚞
The Enoden railway covers all the main attractions. We bought a 1-day pass (¥800) at Kamakura Station from the ticket machine—super easy. 🎟️
What to See in One Day 👀
• 🛍️ Komachi Street: The shopping street packed with food stalls—our favorite stop.
• 🛕 Kotokuin Temple: Home of the Great Buddha, Kamakura’s iconic landmark.
• 🌊 Shichirigahama Beach: Stunning views of Enoshima Island and the perfect spot for sunset.
• 🏀 Slam Dunk Railway Crossing: The famous seaside crossing from the anime Slam Dunk.
We planned to visit Enoshima Island too, but rain changed our plans. Instead, we went back to Komachi Street for more food (we’ve already posted a full food guide—check out our review of 11 must-try spots in Kamakura!). 🥲
