Later that morning, I took one of the small sampan boats through Tam Coc. The woman rowing used her feet instead of hands, paddling with ease while chatting and smiling. We passed under low caves where stalactites dripped into the river and out into open stretches lined with green rice fields and lotus ponds. The limestone peaks rose high around us, mirrored perfectly in the still water. Every few minutes, the scenery changed — a curve of the river revealing another breathtaking view. It was slow, calm, and deeply beautiful, like nature was guiding the rhythm of the day.
