The Dazong Lake Reed Maze is located in the northwest of Dazong Lake in Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province. The maze is primarily a natural reed marsh, with appropriate artificial expansion and renovation. The maze covers a total area of 140,905 square meters, of which approximately 70,169 square meters are water surface and 70,736 square meters are reeds. The maze has three main channels, with an average depth of approximately 1 meter and a total length of approximately 7,650 meters.
The reed varieties within this maze are also superior to other reed varieties, boasting a long growth period. They can reach heights of up to 5 meters, boasting broad, thick leaves and a rich fragrance. Mature reeds have thin, yellowish bark and a smooth finish, making them highly ornamental.
The maze of waterways and reeds here resembles a Bagua formation. For those unfamiliar with the terrain, navigating it by boat would take at least two or three hours. When you tire of exploring the maze, simply let the boat drift and enjoy the wonders of spring's reed marshes. The boat's progress will startle the various wild birds in the reeds. A flock of egrets will suddenly appear at the bow, their graceful movements a scene of extraordinary beauty, while a flock of wild ducks will swim alongside the boat. The interplay of calls from various unknown wild birds echoes with the rustling of the reeds in the breeze, creating a truly mesmerizing sound. It's said that with luck, carp might even leap directly from the water onto the boat. The reeds exude a rich, refreshing fragrance; a deep breath fills your heart with its sweet aroma.
