Kenrokuen Garden in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture

Among Japan’s most celebrated gardens, Kenroku-en in Kanazawa is the kind of place where time seems to pause. Designed to reflect six classical attributes of an ideal landscape, spaciousness, seclusion, artificiality, antiquity, water features, and panoramic views, the garden delivers a serene experience in every season.
Wander along stone paths by koi ponds, pass beneath lantern-lit bridges, and pause by the iconic Kotoji-tōrō lantern, one of the most photographed spots in the garden. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom in soft pink clouds. In winter, traditional yukitsuri ropes are tied to protect the trees from snow, creating a magical scene unique to this region. Located next to Kanazawa Castle, this garden is not just beautiful, it’s poetic.
Tips:
• Entry tickets can be booked online in advance via Trip.com
• Visit in the morning for soft light and fewer visitors
• Combine with a visit to Kanazawa Castle, just across the bridge
• Do not miss Shigure-tei teahouse for a traditional tea experience
