Great places for spring outings in Kyushu - quiet Kumamoto, tranquil Izumi Shrine
⛩Izumi Shrine: Located in Suizenji Temple's Jojuen Garden, Izumi Shrine was founded by retainers of the Hosokawa family to show their loyalty to the Hosokawa family and to commemorate successive lords. The garden design is taken from Utagawa Hiroshige's ukiyo-e "Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido".
🚎Transportation: Walk for 2 minutes from JR Kumamoto Station to Kumamoto Ekimae Station, take the Kumamoto tram, get off at Kenguncho Station, and walk for another 3 minutes to arrive.
Izumi Shrine, a sacred place with a long history, is a holy place in the hearts of Kumamoto citizens and even tourists. During every festival celebration, people come to worship and pray for peace and happiness. The architectural style of the shrine is simple and elegant, and the tiles on the roof sparkle with golden light in the sun, making it look solemn and mysterious.
Stepping into the shrine, it feels like you are in a fairyland isolated from the world. Surrounded by green trees, birds singing and flowers blooming, it gives people a feeling of tranquility and peace. The scenery in the courtyard is even more unique, drawing on the design elements of Utagawa Hiroshige's ukiyo-e "Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido", making every place full of poetry and painting.
Here, people can put aside their worries and feel the tranquility and harmony of nature. Whether devout believers or curious tourists, they will be attracted by the beautiful scenery and mysterious atmosphere here and will be reluctant to leave.
In addition, there are many attractions worth visiting around Izumi Shrine. For example, Suizenji Jojuen Garden is a park full of traditional Japanese garden style. It complements the Izumi Shrine and together they form a beautiful landscape in Kumamoto.
