Kanazawa Art Tour

The 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, located in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, is one of Japan's most iconic modern art museums. With the concept of being a "museum for the citizens," it seamlessly blends art with public spaces. Its most famous exhibit is "Swimming Pool" by Argentine artist Leandro Erlich, which has been a permanent installation since 2004 and has become a globally popular photo spot.

"Swimming Pool" is an interactive art installation. From the ground level, it appears to be a shimmering pool of water. Visitors can enter an underground space and look up from the "bottom of the pool," seeing their companions or the sky through a layer of glass and water. This creates a magical visual effect of being underwater, offering a striking contrast to the traditional charm of Kanazawa's historic teahouse streets.
