Zhengzhou People's Park is located west of Beierqi Road in the city center. It was designated a park in 1951 and officially opened on August 1, 1952. The park covers an area of 30.14 hectares, including 3.37 hectares of water and 25.41 hectares of green space.
At the south gate of People's Park is the Hu Gong Shrine, commemorating General Hu Jingyi. Its five-bay main hall is majestic and imposing. Behind the shrine is an artificial lake, with Qingnian Lake to the west. Friendship Hill, with two islands in the center, is located on the lake's east bank. Boats can be taken westward, crossing two bridges to reach the Cherry Blossom Garden. Within Qingnian Lake, follow the East River northward, passing the central island and crossing the concrete bridge to reach the Lakeside Tea House. Cross the bridge and row north to the base of the park's largest bluestone rockery.
A lotus-shaped fountain stands in the center of the park. Surrounding it are rose flower beds, a large lawn, large sycamore trees, and tall cedars, interspersed with evergreen shrubs. To the northwest lies a magnolia garden, and to the east are bamboo and plum gardens. East of the fish pond are the Yingchun Garden and the Autumn Garden, connected east and west, and home to a flower exhibition hall. East of the Yingchun Garden is a children's playground. Entering the park's west gate, one can see five pavilions nestled among the trees, forming part of the Penggong Ancestral Hall. The Ancestral Hall, also dating from the Republican era, only remains, along with a memorial pavilion and a white marble stele.
