My stay at Chaishan No. 1: An Afternoon with an Ocean View #Chaishan
When I'm feeling bored but still want to go out, I find cafes with ocean views all over the place.
My current favorite is Blue Bay Coffee in Gongliao.
But if I could, I'd try every ocean view cafe in Taiwan.
This time, I visited Chaishan No. 1 in Kaohsiung.
This is a casual afternoon tea after dinner.
Driving up the hillside road toward Sun Yat-sen University in Xiziwan,
From the exterior, you can feel the atmosphere of an old house combined with modern elements.
The red brick exterior reads "I'm at Chaishan No. 1,"
as if reminding visitors to slow down and enjoy the present moment.
🌊 The ocean view is its biggest draw.
From the large floor-to-ceiling windows on the second floor, the vast ocean is right before your eyes.
The blue sky and the sea meet in the distance,
and the occasional boat slowly sails by.
Whether you sit by the window and daydream,
or just sip a quiet drink,
you'll feel time slow down. The ocean view here is truly soothing.
☕ Food and Drinks
This time, I ordered drinks and snacks:
The crispy truffle fries (NT$260 per portion)
paired with a special sauce, were perfect for a chat.
(But I didn't feel it was worth the price.)
For drinks, I chose a coffee smoothie and a cocoa smoothie.
They were quite good.
The cool, sweet flavor perfectly complemented the ocean breeze outside the window.
The ocean view is stunning, so forget the price list.

🪑 Spacious Atmosphere
The interior isn't very large,
but you can see the ocean from every corner. The floor-to-ceiling windows are dotted with greenery,
adding a layer of depth to the view beyond the simple blue and gray.
Arrive early and grab a window seat,
and you'll have your own private corner to relax.
💭 Summary
My impression of Chaishan No. 1:
It's a bit pricey, but worth it. Especially when traveling, spending an afternoon sitting here, looking at the ocean, sipping a drink, and just relaxing is truly soothing.
Sometimes, there's nothing to do; just quietly gazing at the ocean is enough.
