Karuizawa, located in eastern Nagano Prefecture at an altitude of about 1,000 meters, is a famous highland summer resort in Japan. It is approximately one hour from Tokyo by Shinkansen.
With cool summers and cold winters, Karuizawa combines natural beauty with a European-style vacation atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy cycling, golfing, and indulging in local specialties like Shinshu soba noodles, jams, and Western-style desserts.

1️⃣ Stop 1: Shiraito Falls
Nagano Prefecture, Kitasaku District, Karuizawa Town, Nagakura
The waterfall has a drop of about 3 meters and a width of 70–100 meters. It is formed by spring water from Mount Asama gently flowing down the rock face, resembling white silk ribbons. The water is crystal clear.
⚠️ Recommended Duration: 20 minutes
There are souvenir shops nearby. Be sure to try the green ramen and wasabi-flavored broad beans, which are local specialties of Nagano Prefecture.
2️⃣ Stop 2: Harunire Terrace

The name comes from the elm trees that grow abundantly in the area. The terrace features wooden walkways and over a dozen shops, including specialty cafes, fine dining restaurants, and handmade craft stores.

Enjoy unique soba noodles, coffee, and browse the artisan shops for memorable souvenirs.
3️⃣ Stop 3: Stone Church 🪨 & Karuizawa Kogen Church ⛪️
Nagano Prefecture, Kitasaku District, Karuizawa Town, Hoshino
The Stone Church is constructed with alternating layers of stone and glass, without a traditional cross, blending harmoniously with the natural surroundings to embody the concept of "coexistence with nature."
The Karuizawa Kogen Church was originally a venue for discussions on free thought and art, later becoming a Christian church.

These two sites are close to each other and can be visited together. Note that entry may be restricted during ceremonies.
4️⃣ Stop 4: Kumoba Pond
The pond is fed by spring water from Mount Asama. Its clear and tranquil waters are surrounded by birch and maple trees. Locals regard it as Karuizawa's "backyard garden" for relaxation and healing.

5️⃣ Stop 5: Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza 🛍️

One of Japan's largest outlet malls, it boasts a beautiful setting with an artificial lake and lawns in the center, offering views of Mount Asama while shopping.
⚠️ Recommended Duration: At least 2 hours
The mall closes at 8 PM, with some restaurants open until 10 PM. Plan your time accordingly.
6️⃣ Stop 6: Hoshino Onsen ♨️
Nagano Prefecture, Kitasaku District, Karuizawa Town, Nagakura 2148
⚠️ Recommended Duration: 1.5 hours
Towels can be purchased or rented. The facility offers steam baths and both indoor and outdoor hot springs. Enjoy stargazing on the lawn outside. The nearby restaurant serves delicious milk—perfect for a refreshing treat after a soak!
