Kharakorum in Mongolia is a world-famous tourist resort city, with thousands of tourists coming here for sightseeing and vacation every day. There are many temple attractions in Kharakortoin. This time I will introduce a very famous temple attraction in the local area: Guangxian Temple. Karakorum is located in the northwest corner of Mongolia's Khangai Province and was once the capital of the Mongol Empire. It was first built by Genghis Khan. Guangxian Temple is a famous attraction here. It was built in 1586 and the building materials were taken from the ruins of the old capital that had been abandoned at that time. It was destroyed in war in 1688 and rebuilt twice. At its peak, there were reportedly 62 temples and 1,500 monks. After Mongolia's independence, Guangxian Temple was completely destroyed. Only the outer wall consisting of 108 white pagodas and three smaller temples survived.
