Ipoh's Kellie's Castle

Visit one of Malaysia's most mysterious structures—Kellie's Castle, an unfinished castle located on the outskirts of Ipoh. This architectural marvel combines styles from various cultures, exuding an air of mystery and romance, making it a perfect destination for exploring history and architectural aesthetics. The castle is not just a historical relic but also an unfinished dream, standing quietly by the riverside, waiting for its secrets to be unveiled.

Kellie's Castle was commissioned in 1915 by Scottish rubber plantation owner William Kellie Smith, who envisioned a six-story castle blending Scottish and Indian architectural styles. He even planned to install Malaysia's first elevator in the castle.

However, construction came to a halt in 1926 when Kellie passed away in Portugal, leaving the castle forever incomplete. This unfinished structure has since become a historical enigma.

Legend has it that the castle contains a secret tunnel leading to an Indian temple. Some rooms and corridors remain inaccessible, adding to the sense of adventure. The arches, columns, and construction marks on the brick walls are all worth savoring. On the second floor or in the corridors, you might even encounter Kellie's ghost, making this a popular destination for supernatural-themed tourism.

As sunlight falls on the castle's weathered walls, it feels like stepping back in time. Capture a panoramic shot in front of the castle to immortalize its solitary yet elegant silhouette.
