It seems like every big city in Japan has a railway museum? Kyushu is no exception. In Kitakyushu, near Mojiko Port, there is the Kyushu Railway Memorial Museum. With cheap tickets (¥300), a variety of trains, and rideable trains, it is definitely a must-see attraction for railway fans and family travelers.
The Kyushu Railway Memorial Museum is roughly divided into four major areas: the main building, the vehicle exhibition hall, the mini railway park and the locomotive display area.
There is a Meiji-era train on display in the main building, which is quite retro and nostalgic; there is also an 811 series cab in the exhibition area, which can simulate the operation of a train; there are also models of the Kyushu Railway Panorama, permanent exhibitions, special exhibitions, and more.
The vehicle showroom is the most exciting area. In the train showroom, which simulates a train platform, there are 9 different types of trains that have been operated in Kyushu, ranging from antique steam trains, modern electric trains, sleeper trains, electric express trains, etc. It is really a great place to take pictures!
