Kitakyushu Mojiko

Today, we visited Mojiko.
Around 9:00 AM, we left the Mojiko Hotel. The streets were quiet and serene, having been cleansed by the rain overnight. Mojiko is an early port that opened to foreign trade, with deep waters and a connected train station, once bustling as a vital hub for people coming and going.
The old Mojiko Station has been renovated, yet its exterior still retains the grandeur of the past. Both the station's facade and its interior—lobby, ticket office, ticket machines, turnstiles, and waiting rooms—blend modern designs with vintage elements. The spacious lobby and waiting rooms hint at the bustling scenes of yesteryears.
Next to the station's main entrance is a staircase that seems to have been a sheltered passage for important figures. The ticket office intrigued me the most, with an old-fashioned fireplace still preserved. The vintage restroom remains intact, offering a glimpse into the past. Meanwhile, the waiting room has been transformed into an exhibition hall showcasing Mojiko's "past and present," reminiscing about the once-glorious "Mojiko Alley."
This is a must-visit spot in Kitakyushu. From the restored buildings, you can sense that Mojiko was once a crucial "trade bridge" connecting Japan with China and the West.
