Mojiko has undergone continuous renovations and is now a popular destination, a fusion of old and new.
Former Western trading houses, banks, tax offices, and the Mitsui Club have been transformed into popular tourist destinations offering sightseeing, dining, and exhibitions.
Town and alleyways still offer unique shops, embodying the vibrant culture of Mojiko. Once a haunt of small merchants and workers, these corners still retain their cafés and traditional fare (barbecue curry, ramen, squid, and fried chicken). The simple interiors are imbued with Chinese influences and the shop owners' personal artistic touches, while the crowded tables and stools highlight the public's eagerness for community. The presence of these small corner shops, in stark contrast to the nearby Western-style buildings, not only reflects the harmonious life and prosperity fostered by the convergence of diverse social classes and cultures in the old Mojiko area, but also highlights the peace and tolerance fostered by the frequent economic and cultural exchanges between China and Japan. In the distance, you'll often spot traditional Japanese wooden bungalows that stubbornly stand today. Compared to today's skyscrapers, they highlight how old "Moji Port" has remained committed to cultural preservation and heritage despite the passage of time and social progress.
"Moji Port" is truly remarkable!
