The Overlap Stone with Overlap SCENERY

#kohsamuiisland
A really beautiful lookout, not to be confused with Overlap Stone #1. This is where you'll find the hand lookout and one of the balancing stones. While some have pointed out the construction, this doesn't hinder the view, which is really spectacular, overlooking the south east coast of the island. Don't forget to explore, as there are other viewpoints around the other side of the bar. It is a short, steep walk, but very doable for most people if you take your time. The drive/ride up is quite steep in places, but not too bad overall. Those not comfortable on a scooter should ride up as far as they feel comfortable and then walk the remainder. It starts to get busy around 9.30am, but if you arrive before then you'll likely have it yourself. There are clean toilets at the top as well.

I encourage tourists not to be cheap here. It currently only costs 20 baht for parking and another 20 baht at the top (and they give you a drink). But given the work being done and how beautiful this spot is, consider paying what you think it's actually worth! Give a nice big tip to the lovely people running the place if you can (and most can) and show your respect and appreciation.

Some have noted a lot of concrete being put around the lookouts and suggested this looks tacky or takes away from the charm of the place. Depending on what stage of construction you visited, I can understand this, but from what's been done so far, they seem to have a great vision for making it look good and somewhat natural (they are rendering a stone finish over the concrete now). Take a moment to consider the steep landscape here and the need for them to ensure erosion doesn't ruin the location given how highly trafficked it is.
