Yundongyan, located 20 miles east of Zhangzhou City in Fujian Province, is a mountain formed by layers of magnificent, uniquely shaped boulders, each with its own unique charm. Countless deep caves and chambers can be found within the interstices of the rocks. According to the "Zhangzhou Prefecture Chronicle," "One chamber is over ten feet deep and wide. When it's about to rain, clouds emerge from it, and when it clears, the clouds return, hence the name 'Cloud Cave.'" Legend has it that during the Kaihuang period of the Sui Dynasty, a local man raised cranes in the chamber. The cranes would occasionally fly and cry above the mountain, and villagers would witness them, earning the mountain the name "Heming Mountain."
Known as "the first cave in southern Fujian", "the second forest of stele in Fujian", "the first cave in Danxia" and "the first forest of stele in southern Fujian", this scenic and cultural mountain has more than 40 caves of various sizes and more than 200 inscriptions of various styles of calligraphy from past dynasties.
