Kompira Shrine is one of the most iconic shrines in Kagawa Prefecture 🎍
It is said that every Japanese person should visit at least once in their lifetime.
The deities enshrined here are Emperor Sutoku and Ōmononushi, who are revered as gods of agriculture, medicine, and maritime protection. They have been deeply respected since ancient times 🛐
The shrine is especially famous for its long stone staircase leading to the main shrine. There are indeed many steps 🫠
Make sure to reserve enough energy for the climb and wear comfortable clothing for ease of movement!
If you're lucky enough to visit during a festival, you'll see a continuous stream of worshippers. You might also witness traditional dances performed by priests and shrine maidens in traditional attire, creating a solemn and sacred atmosphere 🙇🏻♀️🙇🏻🙇🏻♂️
You can also see the sacred horses 🐴
Across from the torii gate, there are two white horses dedicated to the gods. Seeing a white horse for the first time feels truly divine.
Afterward, we visited the "Asahi Shrine."
By the way, the correct order of worship is to visit the main shrine first and then proceed to the Asahi Shrine. Note that the path to the Asahi Shrine is a one-way route, so avoid turning back.
After completing your visit, you can purchase an amulet. It is said to protect you from illness and disasters!
