Kunming’s Old Town, centered around Wenlin Street and Jinma Biji Fang, offers a charming glimpse into the city’s historical past. Unlike modernized areas, this district retains traditional Yunnan architecture with Qing Dynasty-style courtyards, antique shops, and cozy teahouses. The area is perfect for leisurely strolls, with hidden alleys revealing artisan crafts, calligraphy stores, and local snacks like Yunnan ham buns and rose-flavored pastries.
Jinma Biji Fang, a restored historical quarter, features striking archways and a mix of cultural boutiques. At night, lanterns light up the streets, creating a nostalgic atmosphere. While smaller than other Chinese ancient towns, Kunming’s Old Town provides an authentic, less touristy experience.
How to Get There:
By Metro: Take Line 3 to Wuyi Road Station (五一路站), Exit D, then walk 10 mins south.
By Bus: Routes K12, 95, or 124 stop near Jinma Biji Fang.
Taxi/Didi: Ask for “Jinma Biji Fang” (金马碧鸡坊).
