Introducing Bamboo Village

Banzhu Village, named for its numerous bamboos, is a township under the jurisdiction of Chengguan Town, Xinchang County, Shaoxing. Behind the village, the majestic Banzhu Mountains rise in layers, towering into the heavens. To the north, water from the Longtan Pond of Bajiao Mountain and the underground pit of Huishuling merge at Shuangkengkou before flowing toward the village. Banzhu Village's more than 200 households live by the mountain and stream. The one-kilometer-long cobblestone street and the houses along its sides remain largely intact, and some of the dilapidated counters and windows of the shops along the street can still be seen.

The ancient village of Banzhu, nestled along the Tianmu Ancient Post Road, once enjoyed a period of prosperity, accumulating a rich cultural heritage and becoming a key attraction within the Tianmu Mountain Scenic Area. Historical records indicate that the ancient post road housed inns, providing accommodation for officials and the delivery of official documents. Postmasters and post soldiers oversaw its management. Remains of the Grand and Small Mansions can still be found in Banzhu Village.

At the north entrance of Banzhu Village, the Tianmu Ancient Post Road winds its way, connecting Luoma Bridge with the post street of Banzhu Village.

Sima Temple

Towering ancient trees shade the bridge, while moss and vines entwine the bridge, creating a quaint and timeless atmosphere. The Sima Temple was originally located across the bridge, but was relocated to its current location when Banzhu Village built a grain processing plant. Inside the bridge, the stream boasts a large well and stone thresholds, both worth a visit.

Zhang Family Ancestral Hall

The Zhang Family Ancestral Hall, an ancient building, still exists in Xia Street, Banzhu Village, dating back to the late Qing Dynasty. The Zhang Family Ancestral Hall is a relatively complete ancient building, with a main hall of three rooms, and three viewing towers on each side connected to the front porch of the stage. The main hall has a platform beam style, the secondary rooms have a through-beam style, and seven columns are ground-to-the-ground.
