Yuantong Temple, Kunming

This temple boasts a history spanning over 1,200 years. A must-see for anyone visiting Kunming. Built during the Tang Dynasty in the 8th century, it sits low on a mountainside, unlike most Chinese temples, which are typically built on high ground.

The word "Yuantong" translates to "oneness" or "harmony." The island in the center of the large pond, known as Yuantong Pond, and the octagonal pavilion house a statue of the Thousand-Handed Guanyin and the Burmese Guanyin. It's truly a sight to behold. Many people come here to pray for blessings for children, love, and health, which are granted. Enjoy strolling around, taking photos, and exploring the surrounding area.

Admission is 6 yuan.
Open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
