Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter, located in Okayama Prefecture, Japan, is a tourist destination that preserves the charm of an Edo-period merchant quarter.
It's only an hour and 20 minutes from Osaka by Shinkansen, making it a great day trip from a small city near Osaka.
(You can also get there from Takamatsu!)
It's a great place to stroll along the canal that runs through the center of the town, or enjoy a leisurely ride on a ferry along the gently flowing river. The ferry can only be reserved on-site at the Kurashiki Tourist Information Center, and you'll need to arrive early in the morning. I went around lunchtime and it was already sold out, so I couldn't get on. 😭
I didn't get to ride the ferry, but just watching the boats move is fascinating, and the canal backdrop makes for a beautiful photo opportunity. I'm looking forward to exploring new places near Osaka! If you're planning to visit, be sure to check it out!
