The Kushimoto area is the southernmost part of Honshu, and Kii Oshima is the only "remote island revitalization policy implementation area" in Wakayama Prefecture.
To go to Kii Avenue, you must first go to Kushimoto Station, the southernmost tip of Honshu, and then transfer to a bus heading for Oshima. However, there are not many buses every day. If you don’t want to be affected by the bus schedule, you can also ride a bicycle or drive.
Kii Oshima has an area of about 9.68 square kilometers. Oshima is connected to Honshu by the Kushimoto Bridge, and there is a very small Naoga Island in the middle. There are two main attractions on this island, namely "Sea Kongo" and "Kashinozaki Lighthouse". The recommended route is at "Kashino Lighthouse Exit" ➡️ "Kashinozaki Lighthouse" ➡️ "Haikokugō" ➡️ "Kashino" ➡️ "Kushimoto Station".
After getting off at "Kashino Lighthouse Exit", just keep walking until you reach the lighthouse, but before you arrive you will see many things related to Turkey, such as carpets, Turkish ice cream, and monuments. This is because a Turkish ambassador ship once ran aground and sank nearby. Although the weather was bad, the villagers living nearby tried their best to rescue the people on the boat and shared their food and supplies with the survivors. So in order to commemorate this history, you can see many things related to Turkey here, and a monument has been set up.
The Kashinozaki Lighthouse is one of the first Western-style lighthouses in Japan. Not only is the lighthouse itself beautiful, but the small garden where the lighthouse is located is also very beautiful. This lighthouse is not high and can be considered a mini one, but after climbing up the lighthouse, you can still have a panoramic view of the beautiful scenery nearby.
After visiting the lighthouse, we headed to our next stop, Hae Kong Kong. If you don't drive yourself, it may take about 25 minutes to walk there because the bus frequency is too few.
"Hae Kongang" is a natural landscape formed by the long-term pounding of rocks by waves. I have seen on the Internet that when the wind and waves are strong, the waves hitting the rocks will be very shocking. Unfortunately, when we arrived this time, the sea was calm, so the only things we saw were some craggy rocks on the sea, but they also showed the uniqueness of nature very well.
