This castle was built by Tokugawa Ieyasu as a place to stay when he visited Kyoto. The announcement of the restoration of imperial rule to the Emperor was made at the Ninomaru Palace in this castle, a very famous and major event in Japanese history. It is also registered as a World Heritage Site, and many tourists from both Japan and abroad visit the castle.
