Shimogamo Shrine, Kyoto

Shimogamo Shrine is one of the oldest shrines in Kyoto, and is said to have been founded as early as the time of Emperor Jimmu.

I took a bus from the Kamo River along Kawabata Street, and walked from the nearest bus stop.

I had only seen the torii gate on TV and in photos, so I was very impressed when I saw it for the first time.
