Kyoto Gionsha Yasaka Shrine 4 Sights

Yasaka Shrine, Gion, Kyoto

Yasaka Shrine, affectionately known as "Gion-san" in Kyoto

It is an ancient shrine that has been enshrined since before the capital was moved to Heian-kyo, and its main deity is Susanoo-no-Mikoto.

Susanoo-no-Mikoto is worshipped as a god who exorcises all disasters, and many other deities are enshrined within the precincts.

It is also the head shrine of the approximately 200 Yasaka Shrines and Gion faith shrines enshrined throughout the country.

Point of Interest 1
The God of Matchmaking, Okuninushi Shrine
Okuninushi-no-Mikoto is known as the "White Rabbit of Inaba."
He is the sixth generation grandson of Susanoo-no-Mikoto and is also famous as a god of matchmaking.

At the shrine office, there are heart-shaped votive plaques and fortune-telling slips.

Highlight 2
Goddess of Beauty "Utsukushi Gozensha"
The shrine is dedicated to three goddesses who govern beauty.
It is said that these three goddesses were beautiful.
It is said that if you apply the sacred water "beauty water" that springs in front of the shrine to your skin, your body and mind will become beautiful, so it is a must-see!
Highlight 3
Seasonal Goshuin and Gifts
When I visited in late April, the Goshuin was "Spring-only Waka Goshuin"
The gift was "Shinzakura-yu".
Since it changes with the season, it is fun to visit any time.
Highlight 4
Takeout Kyoto Namafu "Kyo Kurara" in front of the shrine
350 yen per stick
You can easily enjoy a variety of flavors of Kyoto Namafu, from sweet ones such as Houjicha An, Yuzu An, and Matcha An to salty ones such as Dengaku Miso and Wasabi Isobe Maki.
