Eikando Temple (Kyoto), officially known as Zenrinji Temple, is a member of the Jodo sect of Japanese Buddhism. It is a temple famous for its colorful autumn colors. It has a long history and a variety of buildings within the temple grounds that are worth exploring. Inside the building, there is a beautifully carved Buddha statue. There are Buddhist scriptures written on palm leaves and wooden tablets that are well preserved in the building. Visitors can walk around and see the changing leaves while learning about history.
A prestigious shrine in the Heian period (710-1185) donated its private space to monks and transformed it into a peaceful temple. It then fell under the Shingon sect, and the first abbot was a disciple of Kobo Daishi, who founded the temple in the 11th century. The abbot of this temple was very famous. Later, in the 13th century, another abbot transferred the temple to the Jodo sect. The main hall is located on a hill, accessed via a wooden bridge. Along the path is a beautiful rock garden. The best time to see autumn is in November. The temple also has a special exhibition in the evening.
