Making Daifuku Ume, a lucky charm for the new year, is in full swing! Kitano Tenmangu Shrine

The head shrine of Tenmangu shrines across Japan
Pickled plums (Daifuku Ume) are in full swing!
Kitano Tenmangu Shrine

This shrine enshrines Sugawara no Michizane, the god of learning.
It's famous for being visited by students on school trips and those preparing for entrance exams, who come to pray for academic improvement and success.

I visited at the end of July, and the pickled plums for the Daifuku Ume were being sun-dried.
It's still a while before they're ready, but you can apply in advance!

Also, the grounds are home to over a dozen cow statues (these are treated with an antibacterial coating).
Stroking these cows is said to bring two blessings:
1. If you stroke the cow's head and then your own, you will become smarter.
2. If you stroke the same part of your body that's hurting you, then stroke the cow's head, it will heal your illness or injury.

Please come and pay your respects.
