The attraction #東红願寺 is very close to Kyoto Station. It has the world's largest wooden building. It is also the main temple of the Shinshu Otani school. The building is quite magnificent and free of charge. You can visit the main hall for free.
When you enter Higashi Honganji Temple and pass through the Goei-dō Gate facing Karasuma-dōri, the first thing that catches your eye is the #Goei-dō Hall, where the Goei-dō statue of #Shinran Shonin, the founder of the Jodo Shinshu sect, is enshrined. This massive wooden building is 76 meters long in front, 58 meters long on the side, and 38 meters high. There are as many as 927 tatami mats in the hall, which is breathtaking.
The Amitabha Hall, built on the south side of the Goei-do Hall, enshrines the main deity, Amitabha Tathagata. Even the ceiling and pillars in the hall are painted gold to represent the Pure Land world in the "Amitabha Sutra". There are many valuable buildings, including the Miei-do Gate, which is said to be the tallest wooden double-layer gate in Japan, and they are important cultural properties of Japan.
In Higashimagamizu-cho, a little distance away from Higashi Honganji Temple, there is the #Shoseien Garden, which was built on about 10,000 square meters of land donated by Tokugawa Iemitsu. The garden has flowers that bloom throughout the four seasons, and the ever-changing scenery is known as the Thirteen Views, so it has been designated as a national scenic spot and can be visited as a whole.
