Strolling through the classical and beautiful Gion🪭

Kyoto, once the capital of Japan, carries a thousand years of traditional culture🪭.

The most visited area in Kyoto is 'Gion,' located in the Higashiyama district. Known as Kyoto's entertainment district, it is famous for its geisha performances and the beautiful traditional townhouses, Japanese restaurants, and teahouses🍵 that attract many tourists🧳.

Most of the buildings on the streets are typical Kyoto machiya architecture, mainly two or three-story wooden houses without foundations, and no steel nails are used between the beams and pillars.

The streets, full of the ancient capital's atmosphere, preserve the most original townscape of Kyoto.

PS: Besides Hanamikoji Street, which is a 'public road' for both pedestrians and vehicles, many alleys convenient for locals are 'private roads,' and tourists will be banned from entering starting April 2024🚫.

Gion does not have a precise boundary, roughly starting from Yasaka Shrine and developing along Shijo Street.

Nearby attractions in Gion: Yasaka Shrine, Hanamikoji Street, Yasaka Pagoda, Kiyomizu Temple, Shirakawa, etc.

Address: Gion-cho, Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto City
Transportation: Take bus 100 or 206 from Kyoto Station to 'Kiyomizu-michi'
Keihan Line 'Gion-Shijo Station' or 'Kiyomizu-Gojo Station,' 10 minutes on foot
