[Kyoto] Nishi Honganji Temple

About a 15-minute walk from JR Kyoto Station, this is the head temple of the Jodo Shinshu Honganji sect, known for its temple, Onishi-san.
It is also registered as a World Heritage Site, "Cultural Assets of Ancient Kyoto."

◼︎Goei-do
The wooden statue of Amida Nyorai, the principal image of the Shinsengumi, is enshrined here
It is also designated as a national treasure

◼︎Taiko-ro
A place associated with the Shinsengumi
At the end of the Edo period, the number of soldiers increased after the Ikedaya Incident, and the barracks in Mibu became too small, so the barracks were moved to Hongan-ji Temple and the North Assembly Hall and Taiko-ro were used

◼︎Hiunkaku
One of the three great pavilions in Kyoto, also designated as a national treasure
It stands on the pond of Tekisuien, a scenic spot in the southeast of the temple grounds
It is characterized by its asymmetrical yet well-balanced structure
