In the temple area, there are the national treasures, the Golden Hall and the Five-story Pagoda. The Golden Hall was built in 926 by Emperor Daigo. The current building was moved from Kishu by order of Toyotomi Hideyoshi and completed in 1600. The Five-story Pagoda was completed in 951 to pray for the repose of Emperor Daigo's soul. It is about 38 meters tall and has a spire on the roof of about 13 meters. It is said to be the oldest wooden building in Kyoto Prefecture!
