Cherry blossom viewing at Fushimi Juishi Boat is one of the most romantic and Edo-style experiences in Kyoto in spring. A boat trip allows you to enjoy the cherry blossoms, beautiful scenery, and historical buildings of the Fushimi area from the water, and is a great way to combine nature and culture.
The Fushimi Jushi Boat was originally a means of transportation for transporting alcohol and goods during the Edo period, but is now used for sightseeing. The boats run along the Horikawa River, which is lined with cherry blossoms in spring.
The cherry blossom season is usually at its most spectacular from late March to early April, when the fields of pink cherry blossoms are beautiful. Cherry blossoms on both sides of the Hao River hang down over the water and can be admired up close while on a boat. Their reflections in the water are dreamy and charming.
You can also see some historical sake breweries and old buildings along the coast, such as the Gekkeikan Okura Memorial Hall, where you can experience the rich Fushimi style.
Cruise Information:
Flight time: about 40 to 50 minutes
Departure point: Fushimi Minamihamacho Pier, near Keihan Railway "Nakashojima Station"
Ticket price: about 1,500 yen for adults and 750 yen for children (actual price depends on the year)
Operating period: Usually from mid-March to early December. It is particularly popular during the cherry blossom season, so reservations are recommended.
But tickets are hard to get. You need to be as fast as people around the world at midnight Japan time. I tried to get one for three consecutive days but failed. So I didn't take the boat ride, but the cherry blossoms were still very beautiful.
Tips:
-It is even more beautiful during the day of cherry blossoms, when the river surface will be covered with cherry blossoms.
- It is recommended to choose the evening or dusk time, the light and shadows and cherry blossoms are particularly beautiful.
-You can also combine it with a tour of nearby sake breweries or a visit to Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine to make it a one-day trip.
