Kyoto Sagano Recommended Tourist Spots

Took a little escape from Kyoto city vibes and wandered straight into a scene from a Studio Ghibli movie — aka Arashiyama Bamboo Forest. Let me tell you… it’s tall, it’s green, it’s peaceful, and it whispers to your soul (and your Instagram feed).
Was I just walking through bamboo? Yes.
Did I suddenly feel like a meditating samurai with deep thoughts and a camera roll full of blurry trees? Also yes.
📍 Arashiyama Bamboo Grove – Kyoto, Japan
🕘 Opening Hours:
Open 24/7 — yes, even the bamboo doesn’t sleep.
Best time to visit: Early morning (7–8 AM) to avoid the crowd and summon inner peace.
🎟️ Entrance Fee: Free!
🚆 How to Get There:
From Kyoto Station:
Take the JR Sagano Line to Saga-Arashiyama Station (about 15 mins), then walk 10 mins to the forest.
Alternatively:
Hop on the Hankyu Line to Arashiyama Station if coming from central Kyoto.
📸 Instagram Rating:
12/10 — the light filtering through the towering bamboo is basically a free filter. Just try not to photobomb someone’s travel proposal.
🌿 Bonus Nearby Spots:
Togetsukyo Bridge – a lovely stroll and iconic photo opp
Iwatayama Monkey Park – hike up and hang out with some chill monkeys
Tenryu-ji Temple – stunning Zen garden with major tranquility vibes
Bamboo Soft Cream – yes, bamboo ice cream is a thing, and yes, it’s surprisingly good
Pro Tip:
Wear comfy shoes, bring a wide-angle lens (or your best phone camera), and practice your “serene wanderer” look.
Arashiyama isn’t just a forest — it’s a full-on vibe. You don’t just walk through bamboo here. You float. You breathe. You maybe even rethink your whole life (and then go get matcha soft serve).
