Highlights: Cool trains 🚇 & interactive aspects
Access: 2 min walk from Umekoji-Kyotonishi Station
Price per person: 1,500¥ or $13ish SGD
Had a chance to visit the Kyoto railway museum early this year. The museum is located near the Kyoto main station, easily accessible if you just take the local train on the Sagano Line.
The museum is HUGE, with tons of old 🚂 and new 🚅 trains to look at. There are 2 outdoor areas and 1 main indoor area. There are several trains where you are able to enter and look at the interior design of the trains.
There are various spots scattered around the compound where there are interactive activities (e.g. play with railway traffic lights 🚦🚥 , play with the train buttons and consoles). When i visited, there was an ongoing Collab with some kids animation where kids (&adults) could go around the museum to complete tasks and be awarded with some goodies.
The outdoor area is pretty cool, where there were trains arranged in a 360 degree format . Viewing it overhead is pretty cool to see. You could also pay a small additional fee to ride on one of their old trains that is still operational within the museum.
Would say it's worth checking out if you have some free time since it's basically in the center of the city.
