Kyoto|Spacious room with dual-aspect windows Urban hotel at Shijo Horikawa

In the past, I usually stayed near Shijo Kawaramachi when visiting Kyoto. This time, I booked an urban hotel located at Shijo Horikawa. First, about the location: it's about a 7-8 minute walk from Hankyu Karasuma Station, Shijo Subway Station, or Hankyu Omiya Station. There's a bus stop right at the entrance, making it convenient to reach Nijo Castle or other Kyoto attractions. Next door is a FamilyMart, and a Life supermarket is just a 3-4 minute walk away.

The bed was comfortable, though the pillow was average. The room had excellent dual-aspect lighting, with Roman blinds for shading instead of traditional curtains that tend to collect dust. The bathroom only had a shower, but there was a large public bath with a sauna on the second floor. I stayed for three days and visited the bath daily—perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring and ensuring a good night's sleep on the last night.

The staff were friendly, and the breakfast selection was abundant. What stood out was the rice from Ibei, which even I, someone who usually skips rice for breakfast, found delicious. The large windows facing the main road allowed me to enjoy the vibrant Kyoto street scene while dining in the morning. If I had to point out a downside, it would be that the breakfast menu remained the same for all three days.

📍Address: 〒600-8481 Kyoto Prefecture, Kyoto City, Shimogyo Ward, Shijo Horikawa-cho 272-6, 1st Floor
🚇 From Kyoto Station, take bus numbers 9, 28, or 50 to Shijo Horikawa, or walk 8 minutes from Shijo Station on the Karasuma Line.
